  Per contributor Teresa Parrish: "During the Civil War Paul served in the Union Army in Company D, 1st Louisiana Cavalry. On the 1880 Travis county, Texas census his occupation is 'special policeman'. Presumably it had to do with Reconstruction." Thank you, Teresa! FOR THE RECORD!!!! He was indeed born in FRANCE per his death cert. and census records. That kind of consistency, unusual in genealogy, seals it. His Civil War military rec., enlistment, does list his b.p. as New Orleans, La.
