822 On 20 May 1828, Sion Lee BOYKIN b 1800-1806 & Elizabeth E. ANDERSON b c 1810 (daughter of my wife's ggggggparents Hezekiah ANDERSON d Mar 1826 & Alley _____) were married in Screven Co GA by Lewis Malone STRICKLAND J.P. In the Screven Co GA Census of 1830, Scion and ?Elizabeth appear to have a son less than five years of age. On 25 Nov 1830, Alley, her son-in-law Sion and another son-in-law signed as surety for yet another son-in-law's administration of the estate of Alley's ?brother-in-law, James ANDERSON (whose heirs were apparently brothers and brothers-in-law). Sion was included in a similar bond on 6 Dec 1830, but not on 10 Jan 1831. On 26 Feb 1831, Sion bought a horse at the sale of the estate of James ANDERSON. In the division of Hezekiah's estate, Sion BOYKIN is listed as an heir on 8 Jul 1833, but not on 20 Sep 1833!

In his will of 17 Mar 1836 (Screven Co GA Will Book 1 p 48), Ely RUSHING ?b 1810-1820 names his brother-in-law Sion L. BOYKIN as his executor (other heirs were his brother Michael J. RUSHING and sisters Mahala and Caroline).

Sion Lee BOYKIN does not appear in the Screven Co GA Census of 1840. In addition to spelling variations Sion/Scion/Sihon, the name is misread as Lion/Leon. Sion Lee BOYKIN may be the natural son of the Selah/Celia BOYKIN b c 1790 who m c 1806-1807 George MOCK b c 1785 (Sion was probably with George & Celia in 1820). On 14 Jun 1806, a Selah BOYKIN (?age 16) made a gift of a cow, a calf and a two-year old heifer to her son Sihon Lee BOYKIN (at most six years old at the time?). George MOCK b c 1785 m c 1806-1807 a Selah/Celia BOYKIN b c 1790 (sister of my ggggfather), and they are the ancestors of most of the Screven Co GA MOCKs. A couple of their grandsons were named Sion B. MOCK b c 1842 and Sion MOCK b c 1840 (may be one fellow who was double counted in the 1860 census). In the 1820 Census, the George and Selah MOCK household includes one young man b 1796-1802 (I believe this man to be Sion Lee BOYKIN), two boys b 1804-1810, and three boys and a girl b 1810-1820. By 1820 George and Selah are known to have had five children, sons b 1808, 1811, 1815 and 1817 and a daughter b 1813.

(Gene Brownlow) I believe Selah/Celia Boykin had a child, Scion Lee Boykiin, before she married George Mock. The records show Selah/Celia Boykin marred George Mock late in 1806 or 1807. About a year later they had their first child, Joseph Andrew Mock, in 1808. Scion "LEE" Boykin may have been the child of one of the Lee families that lived in Screven at the same time. There were two men in the same age range as Seah/Celia, Joshua Lee and a John Lee. John show to have a famliy in the 1830 cencus and Joshua shows to be living with an older lady, possibly his mother. This could account for Selah/Celia "Boykin" having a son she gave the last name of "Boykin" with a middle name of "LEE" which would have been his true father's last name. Note: in 2019 I found a David Lee jr. b 1787, which would have made him 3 years older than Selah. He was married to Mary Best and they had a son in 1807 which was less than a year after Scion Lee Boykin. It also shows his father David Lee was buried in Screven.

Daughters of the Republic of Texas
Application 21509 on page 352

Based on her Obituary Martha Francis (Chapman) Smith was buried next to Littleton Spivey Smith in Cox Cemetery.
Mrs. Martha Francis Smith is Gone to Rest
On Sunday morning about five o'clock the gental spirit of Mrs. Martha Frances Smith departed this life and went to dwell in "house not made with hands."

Some four weeks ago she went from the old homestead near Bruceville, where she lived with her son, J.E. Smith, to Eddy for a visit to her daughter, Mrs. John Baugh, and soon her strength began to fail and despite the heroic fight that was made by her attending loved ones and skilled physicians, it seemed that nothing could give strength to her care-worn body and cheerfully and resignedly she awaited the last summons.

Mrs. Smith was 84 years old and was born and reared in Houston County, Texas where at the age of 15 years was converted and joined the Baptist church. She was married to K.S. (sic) Smith about 88 years ago and together theyfaced the many difficult problems that confronted the settlers of the early days in Texas.

About 49 years ago they moved to this county and settled near Bruceville and 14 years later Mr. Smith died leaving her witha large family and to fight life's battle alone.

Courageous, putting her faith in God, faithful to her church, and a friend to humanity, she succeeded in rearing her children to be useful men and women,

The funeral service was held by Rev. G.W. Cook at the Baptist church at Bruceville and she was laid to rest by the side of her campion inthe Cox Cemetery.

She was the mother of eleven children and the seven living are: Mrs. Tom Adams, Childress; Mrs. R.L. Simmons, Katy, Okla; Mrs. John Baugh, Eddy; Mrs. W.A. Moore, Moody; Mrs. Low Ingram, Bruceville; Mrs. A.S. Taylor, Waco; J.E. Smith, Bruceville.

The pall bearers were: Bruce, Chas. and Joel Kincannon, all of Bruceville, and Messrs, Langley, Long and Dillworth, all of Eddy.

Card of Thanks.
We Wish to express to the good people of Eddy and that community our sincere thanks and appreciations for the knidness shown us during the illness and death of our dear mother, Mrs. Martha Frances Smith, and for the beauitful flowers we also thank you.

Our hearts are full of gratitude to the neighbors and friends of Mrs. W.A. Moore who were so thoughtful and kind.

May God's richest blessing rest upon one and all.

Mrs. W.A. Moore,
Brothers and Sisters.

826 Oswin was a victim of the April 7, 1900 catastrophic dam break that came about after a couple days of rain that put pressure on the MacDonald Dam it couldn't handle. The flooding from the storm combined with the dam break was tremendous. According to reports I've read Oswin, in a nutshell, and his horse and buggy, were swept off the dike that crossed the river and was near the Bouldin Creek bridge and the Congress Ave. bridge. He happened upon a pole and was safe until a house caught in the torrent hit the pole. He was found about 7 days later in debris along the river in Webberville and was interred on a man's farm. His parents sent friends to get him so he was disinterred and identified by a friend based on a patch on a shoe. He was promptly interred at Oakwood Cemetery. LaFrance, Oswin Paul (I10301)

830 PATRICK HENRY SUDBURY was born in Prince Edward County, Virginia, in
1817. According to Robert McBride, Patrick moved with his parents to Rutherford
County, Tennessee, about 1837. He is the right age to have been the one unidentified
son listed as living with his father, William W. Sudbury, in the 1840 Tennessee
census index. On May 17, 1843, in Rutherford County, Patrick married SARAH
SMOTHERMAN. Sarah had been born in Rutherford County in 1822. She was the
daughter of JOHN G. SMOTHERMAN and NANCY WILLIAMS. Robert
McBride says that the marriage of Patrick and Sarah was part of a double ceremony
in which Patrick's sister, Mariah (entry 1445), married Sarah's brother, Bartholomew
Smotherman.
In the 1850 Tennessee census, Patrick is listed at age 33, along with Sarah, age 23,
and their son William, age 2. At that time they were living on a parcel of land in
Rutherford County very close to Patrick's parents. Although there is no 1860 census
listing for Patrick, there is a listing in the 1870 Tennessee census index for a "Patrick
Sudbury", age 56, living in Rutherford County. Despite the three-year age discrepancy between the Patrick listed in the 1850 census and the Patrick listed in the
1870 census, there is good reason to believe that they are the same person. First of
all, they are both listed as living in Rutherford County. Secondly, there is an entry in
the 1870 census index for a "William Sudbury", age 22, living on a parcel of land
next to Patrick. This William is the exact age that Patrick's son William would have
been according to the 1850 census entry.
Robert McBride recounts the following interesting facts about Patrick's life:
Patrick Henry Sudberry and his family lived in the 14th district of Rutherford
County. His home, since burned and replaced by another structure, lay about a
mile south of the village of Link, and directly across the road from Lebanon
Methodist Church. It is noted that Patrick Henry Sudberry donated the land on
which "Old Leb" Church stands. In the absence of Episcopal churches in rural
Tennessee, the Sudberry family invariably, it seems, became Methodists.
Patrick Henry Sudberry and his brother-in-law, Bartholomew Smotherman, as
well as being farmers, were partners as blacksmiths -- the 19th century equivalent
of the "super service-station". They prospered and were men of some local
prominence and affluence.
Patrick H. Sudberry lived in the Link community for the rest of his life. He died
about 1897 (his estate was settled in 1898). His wife died a year later. He and
his wife are buried in a family graveyard about two miles northeast of his home.

831 Peak District Air Accident Research

B-17E 41-9051 of the 813th BS / 482nd BG USAAF, crashed on Skiddaw near Keswick, on the 14th September 1943.

The crew were on a cross country navigation flight from Alconbury, near Huntingdon, to RAF Turnhouse on the edge of Edinburgh (currently the city's airport). The accident investigators suggested that having been airborne for the lentgh of time it would have normally taken to fly from Alconbury to Edinburgh the pilot began a descent though the low cloud. While still in cloud at approximately 11:30am the aircraft flew into the south western side of Skiddaw and was destroyed by the crash and subsequent fire.

The aircraft crashed on the steep scree slope on the south western side of Skiddaw a couple of hundred feet below the summit.

846 Rachel Ann Hollabough was a daughter of Jacob and Rosanna Harvey Hollabough of Wayne County, Tennessee. She married Emanuel Jefferson Clements there on May 24, 1868, and they were the parents of 12 children, 11 of them known; John Thomas, Mary Elizabeth, Martha Rosanna, Jenny Belle, Emanuel Jefferson Jr., Virginia Paralee, Washington Jones, Jo Anna, Jacob Hollabough, May Watson and Alice Avery Clements.

The Burnet Bulletin, March 14, 1907...In Memoriam.
Mrs. E. J. Clements was born in Wayne County, Tennessee, on November 6th, 1846; was married May 24, 1868; moved to Texas about the year 1872; and came to Burnet County in 1879, where she lived up to the day of her death, February 27, 1907. She was a member of the Baptist Church and had borne her husband twelve children, all living but two.

The pathetic passage in this good Christian woman's life was that for the last ten years she was an invalid. The ablest medical talent of the country had sought a solution and remedy for her trouble but in vain.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. J. Allen, pastor of the Methodist Church and the body laid away at the family burying ground, at Bethel, in the presence of a large concourse of friends and neighbors. A Friend
