Brook Cary was the son of Francis M. and Elizabeth Cary, both of Alabama. Elizabeth's maiden name might have been Lewis. Brook was born in Arkansas in 1850, possibly on January 21. In Nov. 1850 his family lived in Marion, Ouachita County, Arkansas; thus, Brook might have been born there. By 1860 the family was in Newton, Jasper County, Texas; and by 1870 they were in Gatesville, Coryell County, Texas. Brook married Anna Bell Carter on 12-23-1873 in McLennan County. Brook and Bell lived in both Bell and McLennan Counties before moving to Van Zandt County in the late 1890s. Their children: Pearl, Vada, Everette Franklin, Wade, Bessie, Elmer, Leatha, and Ruby.
NOTE: Brook's name appears as Francis Brook Cary on his marriage record, as Francis B. Cary on the 1850 census, and as Francis Cary on the 1860 census. In the 1890-91 Waco City Directory, he is Frank B. Carey. On the 1880 and 1900 census, he is listed as Brook Cary.
