- Alvie Basil Wilson, a long-time Waco resident, passed away at his home on Monday evening, November 28, after a lengthy illness. A graveside service will be held at Rosemound Cemetery on Thursday, December 1 at 2PM with Dr. Jimmie Johnson officiating. Burial will be beside his grandson, Jackson Lance Shank. No visitation is scheduled. Viewing will be at the cemetery, prior to the service only.
Alvie was born November 24, 1925 around the Downing Community close to DeLeon, Texas. He was the oldest of four children. He served in the Army-Air Corps during World War II. After his service, he moved to Waco in 1944 to work at General Tire and Rubber Company for 41 years as a foreman.
He was married to Jonita Jo Wilson who preceded him in death in the 1950’s. He then married Kathleen Chatham Wilson on August 16, 1969 at Columbus Avenue Baptist in a ceremony officiated by Dr. Joe Weldon Bailey. In 1972 their daughter, Laura, was born.
Alvie lived a very simple life and loved his family. He liked to work around the cows on his farm. He never asked for much in life, but his grandsons gave him so much happiness. He was a man people could be proud of by his work ethic and his love of family. His favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 40: 28-31.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; an infant son; and an infant grandson, Jackson Lance Shank, on May 21, 2009.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathleen; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Barry Shank of China Spring; twin grandsons, Ragan and Rian Shank; step-granddaughter, Hailey Roberts of Sherman; and siblings, J.W. Wilson of Denison, Wassalee Tucker of Early, and Larry Wilson of Atlanta, Georgia; and a wonderful caregiver, Joyce Toliver.
