    Jane Brownlow was the daughter of Sir John Brownlow, 3rd Bt. and Alice Sherard.1 She married Peregrine Bertie, 2nd Duke of Ancaster and Kesteven, son of Robert Bertie, 1st Duke of Ancaster and Kesteven and Mary Wynn, in June 1711.1 She died on 26 August 1736 at Grimsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England.1 She was buried on 18 September 1736 at Edenham, Lincolnshire, England.1
    Her married name became Bertie. As a result of her marriage, Jane Brownlow was styled as Baroness Willoughby de Eresby on 16 March 1714/15. As a result of her marriage, Jane Brownlow was styled as Duchess of Ancaster and Kesteven on 26 July 1723.

    Sir John Brownlow, 3rd Bt. was born on 26 June 1659.3 He was the son of Sir Richard Brownlow, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Freke.2 He was baptised on 6 July 1659 at Rippingale, Lincolnshire, England.1 He married Alice Sherard, daughter of Richard Sherard and Margaret Dewe, on 27 March 1676 at Westminster Abbey, Westminster, London, England.1 He died on 16 July 1697 at age 38, without surviving male issue.2 He was buried at Belton, Lincolnshire, England.1 His will (dated 29 July 1689) was probated on 2 September 1697.1
    Sir John Brownlow, 3rd Bt. succeeded to the title of 3rd Baronet Brownlow, of Humby, co. Lincoln [E., 1641] on 30 August 1668.2 On 23 November 1679 he inherited the Belton estates of his great-uncle Sir John, 1st and last Baronet.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Grantham from 1689 to 1697.2

    Notes for ALICE SHERARD:
    Dame Alice Brownlow of Belton had seven children, although only five daughters survived to adulthood. Her husband died in 1697 when the girls were s till young and it became Alice's mission to secure the best possible marriages. She was very successful: two married earls and one a duke. The t hi rd daughter, Margaret, died of smallpox a few days before her wedding to Lord Willoughby but Alice's match did not go to waste as Jane, the fourth daughter, took her place a few months later.
